A website your customers can actually find

I build websites for local businesses in Edinburgh. You get every page your business needs, designed for you, and when something needs changing you message me.

Full sites from £2,000, and nothing to pay until you've seen and approved the plan.

How I work

Three things most web people get wrong

None of this is clever. It is just what happens when one person builds the whole thing and has to live with it afterwards.

  • It loads on a bad phone signal

Before a site goes live, it has to score at least 95 for speed and 100 for accessibility in Google's Lighthouse test, on a slowed-down phone connection. If it doesn't, it doesn't launch.

  • You message me, I change it

No dashboard to learn, no login to lose, no tickets. On the care plan you tell me your prices have gone up, and I change them.

  • It's yours once it's paid for

Once the build is paid for, the design and code are yours, and your words and photos always were. If you leave, you get the code and your domain, with no fee from me.

The process

Four steps, and nothing to pay until the third

Your dates are set together at the kick-off and written into the agreement. What decides how fast it goes is how quickly your photos and words arrive.

  1. 1

    A 15-minute call

What you sell, who buys it, and what you want the site to make happen. If I'm not the right person, I'll say so on the call.

  2. 2

Your quote, and a free sitemap

The price in writing, with the reason if it's more than £2,000. Then a sitemap: every page by name, laid out as the menu will be. It's free, and yours to keep.

  3. 3

    Approve it, then I build

Half the price is due when you approve the sitemap. Your preview comes within 10 working days of that payment and your content arriving, then changes until you're happy, for 30 days.

  4. 4

Sign it off, and it's live

When you're happy, you sign it off and pay the rest. It's live within 5 working days, with the domain, a secure connection and Google Search Console sorted, and a 20-minute call to walk you through it.

Pricing

The price, on the page

Most web designers won't give you a number until you've been on a call. Here's mine. If your site needs more than most, the quote says so and says why, before you pay anything. Only need one page? That's £600.

From £2,000

for a full site. Half when you approve the sitemap, the rest when you sign it off.

What that includes

  • Every page your business needs, from the page list agreed with you
  • Its own design, built to your brand
  • Works on phones, tablets and computers
  • One contact form, delivering to your inbox
  • A Book button to your booking page, tap-to-call, and at most a link to your own payment page
  • Search basics: page titles and descriptions, an XML sitemap for search engines, structured data, and Search Console
  • A look over your Google Business Profile, with advice
  • Visitor counts that use no cookies
  • Accessibility to the WCAG 2.2 AA standard
  • Changes until you're happy, for 30 days from the first preview
  • Launch on your domain with a secure connection
  • A 20-minute handover call and a written summary

What it does not

  • A logo or brand identity
  • Photography, video or illustration
  • Writing the words, unless your quote includes it
  • A CMS or client login (on purpose, see the questions below)
  • Bookings, payments or a shop built into the site
  • More than one language
  • Ongoing SEO or content marketing
  • Moving a lot of content from your old site
  • Pages beyond the agreed page list

£35/month

optional, no minimum term. By standing order from the month after go-live.

Hosting, updates, and the part people actually want: you message me when something needs changing, and I change it. No tickets. Bigger changes and new pages are quoted first.

  • Hosting, and renewing your domain if I hold it
  • Security and software updates, at least every quarter
  • Uptime monitoring: if the site goes down, I'm told and I deal with it
  • Small changes whenever you message me
  • A monthly look at your visitor numbers

Send me the address and I will tell you what is wrong with it, free, whether or not you hire me.

Questions

The questions worth asking first

  • Fair question. GMR Studio is new, so there are no client sites to show yet. Before starting it I designed and built adamantiaweddings.com and legendscollective.co, and you can look at both. You also see the plan for your site before you pay anything, and if you don't like it, you owe nothing.

  • Because businesses differ. £2,000 covers a typical full site. If yours needs a lot more pages, or something from the not-included list, the quote will be higher, and it says why. You see it in writing before you pay anything, and once you approve the sitemap, the scope is fixed.

  • Before you approve the sitemap, you owe nothing, and the sitemap is yours to keep. After that, if you end it, I keep the first payment, you get everything I've made so far, and you owe nothing more.

  • Yes. A one-page site is £600: one long page plus a privacy page, its own design, and changes until you're happy. It suits a business with no website yet, one location, and bookings through an app or by phone. You see a preview within two working days of your form, photos and first payment arriving, and it's live within seven.

  • A preview within 10 working days of your content and first payment both arriving, and live within 5 working days of you signing it off and paying the rest. Your actual dates are set together at the kick-off and written into your agreement. What usually slows a site down is waiting for photos and words, which is why the clock starts when they arrive.

  • Because for a site that changes a few times a year, a CMS is a login to forget, a system to keep updated and an extra cost, and it makes the site slower. You message me instead, and I make the change. If you really need to edit things every week, I'll tell you on the call, and either quote for it separately or point you to someone better suited.

  • Once the build is paid for, the site is yours. If you leave, you get a copy of the code or the hosting moved to your own account, plus your domain if I hold it, with no fee from me. I keep the site running for a period set in your agreement, so you can move it without a gap.

  • Yes, the technical side: fast pages, page titles and descriptions, structured data, a sitemap for Google, and Search Console set up. I'll also look over your Google Business Profile with you, which for a local business often matters as much as the site itself. I don't sell monthly SEO retainers.

No pitch deck and no pressure. If I am not the right fit I will say so and point you at someone who is.
